Our first 2 player game tonight and it was like an awesome armadillo: smooth on the outside and crunchy in the middle! 😄

This definitely feels like euro game play. Managing resources to build sections of the Red Cathedral for prestige points is the ultimate goal. And with only 3 main actions from which to choose each turn and simple rules, we were able to dive straight into the strategy that makes it so enjoyable! 😃

The rondel market mechanic works so well in how it offers tempting resources (doubling and tripling up with clever dice moves). Even when you're getting something good, however, missing out on a helpful Guild favour or not taking advantage of an ongoing workshop bonus makes us second guess every decision! Deciding between building sections for money and points and adorning to block others getting there first (not to mention more prestige points) is also a delightful dilemma!

Sneakily, the player dominating each completed tower gets more points per structure at end game, but the other player can also gets points if they can add even one ornament somewhere! As such, our last few turns were a fierce battle to build and block windows! Having this area majority puzzle within the game is an added crunchy challenge!

🌐 Ganymede is a super fun, fast playing WP, resource management, engine building, set collection tableau game which is always a blast to play! It squeezes a lot of mechs into a short play time as you race to be first to launch your four ships from Ganymede and colonise new worlds. You can't launch empty crafts though so it's down to you to play your cards, choices, and workers right so that the correct colour settlers shuttle from Earth, through Mars and onto the waiting ships!

There's also a Moon expansion that adds new characters and abilities to the base game!

1️⃣0️⃣ by @alderaceg @flatoutgames is a fun, fast playing, push-your-luck auction card game where you're trying to build runs of suits of the same colour/pattern. And this is because only your longest run of consecutive numbers in each suit will score at end game (bonuses available for a full 10 card compliment of course!)

1️⃣0️⃣ On your turn, you flip over as many cards as your nerves allow! If you choose to stop and pick up the number cards, any currency cards flipped will mean your opponents get currency equal to the value of the currency shown on those cards (although each player can only hold a maximum of 10 currency tokens). If you pick the currency cards, the number cards go into the market pool where anybody can buy them on their turn.

1️⃣0️⃣ But if the total value of the number cards or the currency cards exceeds 10, you bust! That means no cards for you and no chance to go to the market and use any currency you do have to buy even more cards (and stop your opponents grabbing them on their turn!

1️⃣0️⃣ When wild cards appear, drafting is briefly paused to let the auction begin - do you want a wild enough to pay top dollar for it???

1️⃣0️⃣ TEN is a fun, fast, filler that gets more strategic the more you play. Sometimes whatever you pick is always going to help another player - and that is frustratingly fun!

1️⃣0️⃣ When players get into the spirit of the risk/reward potential and don't play safe on the draw, we think TEN works well at all player counts including 2P!

Okay, I know I am reallllllly late to the Star Realms/Hero Realms game play. Like ashamedly so (especially as it has been sat in shrink on my shelf for over 6 months!) 😂Buuuuutttt, I'm here now and I ❤️ my first game of Star Realms by @wisewizardgames 👏👏👏

Got my butt handed to me on my first 4 player game with @saggyhead @marvin_marigolds and @shadowmeeplemedia but it didn't matter. It plays fast, the hits come faster, the combos are cracking, and the pain is ferocious but fleeting. But most importantly it's fun and there are lots of green BLOB cards! haha 😂

Going to deep dive into this little deck builder a lot more from now on and really looking forward to some 2 player pain!!! haha! 😂

First play of Red Cathedral by @devirgames @kosmos

First play of Red Cathedral by @devirgames @kosmosgamesuk finished a few hours ago and it is euro-y goodness!

🔨In the game you're trying to build sections of St Basil's Cathedral (bases, arches, and tops) in order to win prestige points. And, as we found out, even which sections you choose matter!

🔨But you need to reserve the Cathedral sections you want first and then have the correct materials to go from scaffolding to splendiferous! And of course no cathedral would be complete without a few additional adornments like windows and doors!

🔨 The rondel is the market in Red Cathedral. It's where you can manipulate and maximise what resources are on offer both for yourself this turn and the next players. And because you'll (hopefully) have workshops which produce additional resources depending on what dice you choose to use, a trip to the market can be bountiful indeed!

🔨A choice between 3 actions may sound tight, but results started coming fast as we got more familiar with the game play.

🔨 I ❤️ games where one decision you make now can have multiple consequences, each of which are solid choices for you on your current turn but have the potential to be even better (or not so clever!) in a turn or two depending on what other players do next. #RedCathedral is most definitely one of those games!

🔨Very initial impressions are an easy to play but very clever, crunchy, action selection, resource management, dice rolling game with a very cool rondel system for obtaining resources.

🔨 Although quite different, when playing I got a sort of Castles of Burgundy vibe (perhaps because of the dice rolling and action selection, or the way things on your own board can have ongoing effects during the game, or maybe just the nature and effects of the decisions) but that's a great feeling as I love CoB!!

🔨 Really looking forward to deep diving into this little box literally FULL to the brim with gaming goodness! Honestly I don't know how @devirgames @kosmosgamesuk packed it all in! 😂

🎲Overview: Riftforce is a 2 player duelling game where players are battling for control of locations along the Rift. With asymmetrically powered Guilds, it is down to you to synergise their abilities and use the Elementals to your advantage and ascend to victory! 💧🔥⚡🙏

🎲 Gameplay: Simple to learn, each player chooses 4 of the 10 Guilds. Each Guild is a specific Elemental that can do something unique when activated (Earth can do something immediately too). The Elementals are represented by cards numbered 5,6,7 and the number is their "strength". On your turn, you can (1) lay upto 3 cards of the same number or type from your hand of 7 on 1,2,or 3 adjacent locations, or (2) activate a number/Guild by discarding a matching card from your hand or (3) check to see if you have control of a location by being unopposed on the other side (and gain 1 Riftforce) and draw back up to 7 cards. If you destroy your opponent's elemental by laying more damage tokens than the value of the card, you gain Riftforce.

🎲 First Impressions: I think Riftforce could become a big hit with us. The play is fast👏, decisions are v strategic (although luck does factor when drafting cards)👏, and it's head-to-head 👏. But having a free choice of Guild each game does risk @shadowmeeplemedia and I gunning for the same powers. So we have already house-ruled random selection. I get that this could mean synergies not reaching maximum potential, but it will help keep every game fresh for us. Some compare it to my favourite Battle Line by @gmtgames but it feels different to me. Looking forward to getting under Riftforce's skin!

(I had written a big post about Sunsets over Water by @pencilfirstgames @ed.baraf but it seems to have disappeared!)

This game is beautiful. It's a quiet, thinky, contemplative set collection game where you play painters hiking in gorgeous landscapes, producing artworks to sell for renown. The cards and direction you can move around the tableau is set by the time you wake up, and you can only sell a card when you have paintings that match the icons being collected.

I absolutely ❤️ this game solo. It's gorgeous to look at and the decisions are light but thinky. The solo is also easy to set up and play using the solo deck.

Off the strength of my love of The Whatnot Cabinet and Herbaceous, I've got Floriferous on back order and am looking hungrily at @pencilfirstgames forthcoming release, Delicious 😋 I've never played the one Hundred Torii but it looks so beautiful. Have you played? Would you recommend it?

Just like one of the apples in the game, Grove is a sweet and crunchy little solo patching game!

Already a fan of Orchard, the introduction of glades is a tasty treat. Whilst being able to use them to cover trees and not lose existing dice sounds like an advantage, any dice left on glades at the end are "spoilt' and score nothing! Sharp! 🍏🍋🍊

The scoring objective recipes on the reverse sides are also excellent. They sound simple but are proving to be a fruity challenge! 🍏🍋🍊

So much game play with just a few cards! And the components are lovely - I lasted 2 game before deciding to sleeve everything to preserve its freshness! 🍏🍋🍊

💗💛💚💙💜 Hāpy Families is a fun twist on the usual Happy Families set collection mechanic. Here, the cards are all laid out in a pyramid (Truffle Shuffle style), and you're tying to get either (a) a complete family of 6 matching little Egyptian Gods or 5/4/3 sets of 3 in a 2/3/4 player game. With some cards flipped up, you'll be able to tell which sets your opponents might be going for. But not all the cards are on show, so watch out for some double crossing card play! 😍

On your turn, you take a card from the pyramid and put it into your hand. If it is a face down card, keep it secretin your hand! Then you can ask an opponent to give you one of their God cards (so long as it wasn't requested last turn). If you make a set, you must lay it down in front of you. Once on the table, these family cards can't be requested.

Every game in our collection makes me think of family as game time is family time. Our community is also a wonderful family too! Here are a few we have been playing recently!

❤️ Katamino Family by @gigamic_france @hachetteboardgamesuk is a brilliant 1/2 player junior version of spatial puzzle, Katamino. Using colourful, chunky polyominos, you're duelling to be first to fill your grid using only the pieces on your card. So many puzzle and imaginative play in one box!

❤️Viticulture and Viticulture World again come to mind as you play a family (or extended family in World) building up a successful wine making empire! Viticulture base game is a brilliant worker placement, hand management game where you are competing with other families whereas the new World expansion opens up the game into a co-operative experience where you're working as an extended family, growing grapes and making wines from all over the world! I also ❤️ the new Mama and Papa cards where you can start the game with same sex parents. I have said it before but it's worth repeating;; it's crunchy, it's delicious, and it's a game to be savoured!

❤️ My Gold Mine by @kosmosgamesuk is a great little push-your-luck small box racing game. To win, you've got to get your miner to the exit with the most gold. But watch out for the fire breathing dragon!

❤️ Quivit by @petersengames is a super spatial puzzle where you gain points by rotating a single card 90 degrees to match a colour on 4 adjacent card corners. A Fun and tricky one over morning toast!

❤️ Moonlight Castle by @haba_deutschland @just4kids_uk @amaroni_toys is a super action selection, set collection game where you're trying to rescue precious jewels by tricking an evil magician with coloured pebbles!

❤️ Magic Market by @coiledspringgames is a lovely dice rolling, market, memory game where you're selling magical objects for (hopefully!) the best price!

Kickstarter day!! Little but lovely, Orchard and Grove by @sideroomgames have arrived!!! 👏🌳🍎

I truly believe a solo game per day keeps the doctor at bay, so ones involving 🍎🍏apples must be twice as effective! 😍😂

I had Orchard as a PnP from the super @pnparcade anyway and I ❤️ the game play already, but I couldn't resist adding the original on to my pledge after seeing the photos posted by @boardgamebeacon 😊
